Grace Church of the Valley (GCV) is excited to announce our very first church plant effort in Seaside, CA—Grace Church Monterey Bay! Through much prayer, planning, and collaboration, God has made another way for Grace Church of the Valley to glorify God by extending his kingdom.
In late 2018, two elders from Seaside First Baptist Church (SFBC), Nick Poma and Justin Clausen, approached the leadership at GCV for help. The current pastor was being removed from his position due to disqualification and the church was hurting. Pastor Dom and Pastor Scott came alongside the two elders and offered any help from GCV that was possible.
In early 2019 Grace Church of the Valley began sending families to go serve at Seaside First Baptist on the weekends through preaching, children’s ministry, and encouragement. During that time, families from both churches were greatly blessed by one another and were able to see God’s hand working to revitalize the local church in Seaside.
Soon after, the elders at Seaside First Baptist asked the GCV elders if Grace Church of the Valley would be willing to partner with them to help revitalize their church as a church plant from GCV. The GCV elders agreed and believed that Dom Avila was the right pastor and shepherd to lead them.
Since that time, the GCV elders have affirmed the name change of Seaside First Baptist to Grace Church Monterey Bay (GCMB) and regard this revitalization as a church plant of Grace Church of the Valley. The GCV elders have committed to having a close partnership with GCMB and regard it as a sister church.
That partnership includes affirming Pastor Scott and Pastor David to sit on the GCMB leadership team (along with Michael Boys, Junior Jamreonvit, and Daren Fennell) that will meet remotely every month for the first six months and then every six weeks after. The GCMB local leadership will come to give updates at a GCV elder meeting at the three- and six-month markers.
Pray for the Avila family as they prepare to finish their time well at Grace Church of the Valley while embarking on a new ministry in the Monterey Bay area.
